Chicago Manual is the citation style most commonly used in art, architecture, and design. There are two kinds of Chicago Manual, the Notes-Bibliography (NB) system that uses a bibliography and either footnotes or endnotes and the Author-Date (AD) system that uses a bibliography and parenthetical citations within the text. The Notes-Bibliography system is used more often. Check assignment guidelines, the class syllabus, or ask your professor if you are unsure of which style to use.
