About this Page

This selective guide identifies major sources of statistical data for both K-12 and higher education. Many of these reports are produced by the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) and pull data from NCES surveys, U.S. Census data, and other data produced by government or private agencies.

Education Data Sets

To use these data sets, you'll need to download the file and upload to statistical analysis software like SPSS, SAS, or R.

Common Core of Data
Comprehensive annual statistics covering all U.S. public elementary and secondary schools and school districts. Includes a build-a-table feature.

School District Demographics
Geographic and demographic data from school districts. Includes a data mapping feature.
Schools and Staffing
Four core annual surveys covering schools, teachers, principals, and school districts.

Annual Reports of Education Statistics

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
Provides periodic national assessments of achievement by subject area for various populations of students (e.g. fourth graders).
Condition of Education (2000 - )
Indicators documenting recent trends and developments in American education. 1975 - present available in print.
Projections of Education Statistics
Projections of key K-12 and higher education indicators, including enrollment, graduation rates, number of teachers, and school expenditures.

SABINS (School Attendance Boundary Information System)
The School Attendance Boundary Information System (SABINS) provides, free of charge, aggregate census data and GIS-compatible boundary files for school attendance areas, or school catchment areas, for selected areas in the United States for recent school years.
