Slido allows for audience polling, word cloud creations and other forms of participation. The big advantage of this service over PollEverywhere is that is integrates directly into PowerPoint and Google Slides. The free tier allows for up to 100 participants per event, but it is limited to three polls (questions) per event.

Poll Everywhere is one of the oldest and most prominent Web-based polling platforms. It not only allows for polls, but it will create word clouds and charts based on student input. Poll Everywhere also allows students to reply to polls via an app, a website, or via SMS text messaging. We have a subscription to Poll Everywhere:

This service contains a number of tools to promote interaction in in-person or synchronous online classes. The problem is that the free tier only allows for 50 participants per month.

Game-based quizzes. Popular with K-12 teachers, so our students know this platform. Free version is limited to 10 users.

Online flashcards with deep Canvas integration.

Create game-like quizzes using an easy interface. It is really targeted towards a K-12 audience, but it works for higher ed too.

Visual boards for sharing and organizing multimedia content

Virtual post-its (and other things) that is a part of Google Drive. Google is sunsetting this app on 12/31/2024.

Virtual whiteboard platform. It's very feature-rich, but it is business-oriented and users have to create an account and be invited by the event creator to participate.

This is a feature-rich virtual whiteboard platform that even allows for the embedding of videos. There is a free tier.

Closed group system that allows instructors to create promps that students reply to in video via a smartphone app.

Asynchronous video messaging platform. Also includes a free screen recorder.

This platform, must often used by gamers for streaming on Twitch, also is very good at screen capture. It is free of charge and doesn't place a watermark. Tip: do a trial run to be sure that you are capturing audio.

This tool provides both screen capturing as well as some basic editing tools. It will also capture audio narration. The free tier does lack some features so I recommend editing your video on another platform.
