Hiring Best Practices Document (Draft)
- Developed a document of best practices to make the recruitment and hiring process more inclusive of diverse candidates, which includes:
- Recommendations on where jobs are posted and posting content.
- Recommendations for creating an equitable, inclusive interview process.
- Began the process of creating innovative marketing materials to attract diverse candidates to Miami University Libraries.
- Will develop a webpage prospective candidates can visit to learn more about the Libraries.
- Currently in the process of creating Why Choose Miami Libraries video interviews of staff and teams from the Libraries.
- Staff and student employees involved in interviews.
Heanon Wilkins Fellow
Heanon Wilkins Fellow/Visiting Librarian Program Implementation Guide
- Fostered a relationship with the Office of the Provost to incorporate the Libraries into the Heanon Wilkins Fellows Program.
- Developed the program foundations for the Heanon Wilkins Fellowship program within the Libraries. Implementation guide includes:
- Program Basics
- Roles and Responsibilities
- Search Process Procedures
- Fellowship Structure
- Resources for the Fellow
- We will work toward hiring a fellow, hopefully for a start in Fall 2024!
Libraries' Commitment to Inclusive Excellence
University Libraries' Diversity Statement
Libraries' Commitment to Inclusive Excellence
- Developed the Libraries' Diversity Statement to align with the University's Diversity Statement and concepts from other academic libraries.
- Developed the Libraries' Commitment to Inclusive Excellence. This document contains a series of recommendations for how to make the LIbraries a more inclusive and welcoming place. Recommendations include:
- Collections: Collection Definition and Evaluation
- People: Recruitment and Hiring Practices
- Services: Standardized Accessibility Training
- Services: Signage and Documentation
- Spaces: Physical Accessibility
- A team has been convened to oversee implementation of these recommendations as part of Catalyst '24.
Goal 2: Transform the Libraries' environment and user-centered experience to anticipate evolving modes of learning and the actual resource needs of our community.
Infrastructure Improvements
Room 112 Floor Plans and Rendering of New Space
- Completely re-designed the CIM Lab from concept to construction drawings. The new space will include:
- 24-seat classroom
- Conference room
- Breakout room
- Study space
- Selected furniture that provided flexible seating arrangements that aligns with student expectations.
- The project is a "proof of concept" for the larger Kickstart King renovation.
Goal 3: Forge meaningful partnerships that foster affordability, ensure relevancy, and cultivate lifelong connections.
External Funding
- Defined and divided the initiative, which began as a lofty goal.
- Fostered a relationship and functional partnership with the Office of Research and Innovation.
- Outlined multiple projects that will support grant applications in upcoming years. Plans are underway to complete these projects in Catalyst '24.
