The following links are to granting organizations that typically fund academic and research library projects.

National Grants

• Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR)

  CLIR is an independent, nonprofit organization. Through publications, projects, and programs, CLIR works to maintain and improve access to information for generations to come. In partnership with other institutions, CLIR helps create services that expand

• Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)

  The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of U.S. government support for the nation’s libraries and museums.

• National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)

  The NEA is a U.S. government grant-making agency that primarily funds artistic initiatives. Through its Save America's Treasures grant, the NEA also funds the preservation of past artistic endeavors.

• National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)

  NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.

• National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC)

  The NHPRC promotes the preservation and use of America's documentary heritage essential to understanding our democracy, history, and culture, and offers U.S. government grant funding with that goal

• Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program

  The Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program (LB21) supports the training and professional development of library and archives professionals; developing faculty and information leaders; and recruiting, educating, and retaining the next generation of library and archives professionals in order to develop a diverse library and archival workforce and meet the information needs of their communities.

• NNLM Funding Opportunities

  • The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) provides several funding opportunities on a rolling basis throughout the year. We are located in Region 6. 

• ALA Grants

  • Grants and fellowships offered by the American Library Association (ALA)

• BRASS Research Grant
  • The BRASS Research Grant Award will be awarded to an individual or team seeking support to conduct research in business librarianship. Individual applicants (or at least one member of a collaborative team) must be a member of ALA. Business librarianship can be broadly defined and can also include topics in data literacy, government documents, and economics.
• RUSA/ETS Best Emerging Technology Application (BETA) Award
  • Established in 2019, the ETS Best Emerging Technology Application Award offers $3,000 to an individual or group in recognition of a technology application that benefits the library and its patrons.

Ohio Specific Grants

• Celebrating Ohio Book Awards & Authors (COBAA) LSTA grant

  • $2,000 per eligible institution

  • Deadline usually mid-January

• State Library of Ohio LSTA - Competitive and Open Grants

  • Deadline for Open Grants: March 15, August 15, November 15

  • Deadline for Competitive Grants: mid-November

• ALAO Research Grant
  • The Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) seeks to promote research, and each year the ALAO Executive Board may award up to $2,000.00 to support and encourage research projects proposed by ALAO members.
