We are committed to offering monthly workshops during the semesters to teach skills and showcase makerspace technologies. We always schedule a drop-in workshop at the start of each month during the Fall and Spring semesters, and then add additional workshops and demonstrations on other days. Fall 2024 Workshops

Aug. 27 - Pop-Up Workshop

Join us on your way to or from class for some making fun!
Sept. 4 - Create Handmade Objects with 3D Pens!
Use our 3D pens to create 2D and 3D objects by hand! You may follow a pattern or design on the fly as you layer 3D filament to create a beautiful item.
Oct. 2 - Make an Automata, a Self-Propelled Object!
Create an object or scene that moves at the turn of a crank, or completely independently with a motor!
Nov. 6 - Design a Sublimated Tag for Your Pet!
Do you have the best pup? Make your furry friend a fancy tag!
Dec. 4 - Enjoy Our Open House and Make a Gift!
Take a break from studying, learn about our tools and materials, and make a gift or something beautiful to take home!

Feb. 7 - Vinyl Clocks
Use our laser engraver to create a vinyl record clock. Limited supplies are available; one clock per person.
Mar.6 - Laser Cut Jewelry, Keychains, and more
Create your own unique jewelry piece, keychain, or three dimensional item with our laser cutter.
Apr. 3 - Design your own vinyl stickers
Make a sticker for your car, laptop, window, or bike!!
May 8 - May the 4th be with you!

Fall 2023 Workshops - Get Ready to Make!
This semester we'll hold our regular workshops, other than the two pop-ups, on Wednesdays from 2-4 in the TEC Lab in GRD 125. We will also continue our certificate program that gets you ready to use one of our tools. We'll have the heat press, 3D printing, and the Glowforge laser cutter, plus some other items. Watch here for a link to register for any of the certificates. This semester, you can complete some pre-work on your own time and take a quiz, and then set up an appointment to meet with a TEC Lab maker to give you first hand experience with the equipment.

Sept. 6 - Projects for the Beady-Eyed
Stop in the library Wednesday, September 6th 2pm-4pm and create with us! GHL will be providing perler beads and pony beads for participants to make fun projects, just bring yourself.
Oct. 4 - Make a Pocket Patch with Direct to Transfer (DTF) Printing!
Got a pocket on your shirt that is looking for some pizazz? Stop in the library Wednesday, October 4th, 2pm-4pm and we will print a pocket pal to add to your shirt using our new Direct to Film printer! Your designs can be full color or black and white, and should fit in a 4in x 4in space. You supply the shirt, the library will supply the print out. Please send your designs to hicksjl2@miamioh.edu by October 2nd.
Nov. 1 - Sublimated Dog (& Cat) Tags!
Do you have the goodest pup? Make your furry friend a fancy tag! Drop by the library between 2pm and 4pm to make your choice of a sublimated or laser engraved pet tag! One tag per person.
Dec. 6 - Coasters and Cocoa! Make sublimated and laser-engraved coasters
Ready for the semester to be over? Take a break from studying! Stop by the library between 2pm and 4pm to enjoy some hot chocolate and create a drink coaster! We will have options to sublimate or engrave. Attendees are limited to 2 coasters.

If the specific workshop time doesn't work for you, and you're interested in trying out a making project or a making activity, please contact us on the link in this guide and we can set up a time for you to come in that works better for you! All of the workshops below are free for everyone to participate in! We have three new workshops this semester for which you can earn a certificate in using making equipment. Please register for the certificate workshops using this form.
Feb. 8th - Make Valentines
It’s almost Valentine's day and whether for friends, family, or other loved ones, we’re here to help you make gifts to show how much you appreciate them! Stop by the TEC Lab and get making, between 11:00am- 1:00pm.
Feb. 23rd - Heat Press Certificate
Earn a certificate in makerspace equipment! We are offering a workshop that will prepare you to use heat presses Register today for a one-hour introduction to the technology, a short quiz, and a demonstration of your skills to earn your certificate. 2pm-3pm.
March 8 - Spring Makers: Design Your Own Beach Bag
It’s nearly time for spring break, and you’ll need to gather your beach gear in a snazzy tote bag. So stop by the TEC Lab and design one made for you and your travels! 11:00am - 1:00pm
March 30 - 3D Printing Certificate

Sept. 14th - Sept. 23rd - TEC Lab: Photo Frame Design Contest
Use the TEC Lab to design a picture frame! We supply the frame and tools, you supply the creativity! Stop by during open hours this week and use our supplies to design a frame. Enter your creation to win a prize! Entry not required to participate.
Oct. 4th - TEC Lab: 80s Photos with the Green Screen and Basic Photo Editing.
Stop by the TEC Lab and the One-Button room to go back in time with us, as we do our own 80’s photoshoot! 11:00am - 1:00pm

We opened up Spring Semester in the TEC Lab with a Mini-Maker Faire on February 2, from 11am-1pm.
Workshops returned to the TEC Lab for Fall 2021! Each session was held both from 11:00am to 1:00pm and then from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Here are the dates and topics:
For Fall 2020, we moved our workshops online - TEC Tuesday Online! We posted a video and instructions for a maker project on the listed day. Supplies were available in the library, or you can use your own items.
For Spring 2021, we put the workshops on hiatus.
