Professional Development Guide for Classified Staff

Job Enrichment

Job Enrichment is something that classified staff can choose to participate in through Miami's Human Resources department. Enrollment and administration of the program is handled through Workday. To enroll, log into Workday. In the search field type Create Request and select the task of Create Request. Your request type is Request Types without Workday Objects. Then select Job Enrichment Program Enrollment. Complete the questions as directed and click on Submit.

Participation can result in a Job Enrichment Bonus, Premium Pay Increase or an Advanced Component Bonus as outlined in the Job Enrichment Award Schedule. Once you complete the application process and it is approved, you have the option to create a JEP Learning Plan in collaboration with your supervisor to fill in competency or skill gaps, enhance existing skills and/or identify areas for growth. While your JEP Learning Plan can connect to goals in your evaluations, it is not required of you or your supervisor. Work with your supervisor to determine what will or will not be a part of your goals.

JEP Program Things to Consider

Work with your supervisor to identify what Job Enrichment opportunities may be most beneficial to your current position. Where there are costs associated with a course you can work with your supervisor to see if the opportunity qualifies for usage of money from the Classified pool of professional development funds. Some opportunities may be available through one outlet with a cost while similar opportunities might be available at no cost or require a library card from the Lane Libraries. It is important to review all options and not just assume something is offered only one way. Courses through AMA require the purchase of a book. The Libraries do not cover the cost of these books. Similar opportunities are available through Universal Class or LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com) for free with a Lane Library card.

There are also University Sponsored Non-Academic Learning Opportunities and other Learning Resources that you may find specific to your job and are eligible for Job Enrichment points. It is important to work with your supervisor if you want to take advantage of these opportunities. Further information can be found here.

Once you have completed an opportunity, you have 6 months to complete and submit the Job Enrichment Program Course Submission to receive your points. Our best advice is do it as soon as you finish. You don’t want to forget and miss out on the points and the takeaways will still be fresh in your mind. To find this form go to Workday and search Create Request. Select the Create Request task and select Request Types without Workday Objects. Then select Job Enrichment Program Course Submission, answer the questions, upload the documentation and click on Submit.
