Professional Development and DEI Calendar

How to Add PD Opportunities to the Professional Development Calendar

  1. Open the message.
  2. At the top, click More and then Create event.
    • Google Calendar creates an event, copying the Gmail message title and text. It is worthwhile to copy and paste the full text of the email or event into the created event as the full details can get cut off. Google Calendar automatically invites people related to the Gmail message. Be sure to delete those before saving or you will get a pop up asking if you want to send event invites.
    • Tip: If you do want to invite more people, on the right under "Guests," enter an email address. This will not be used on this shared calendar unless the event is being put on for our library staff.
  3. You can change the event time, date, and location.
  4. After Add Notification, click on the calendar name dropdown menu. Next to the calendar name, click the down arrow. A list of all the calendars you can create events for appears. Select your preferred calendar.
  5. Click Save. The event appears with both the calendar name and the name of the person who created the event.

  1. Click any place on the calendar that doesn't already have an event scheduled.
    1. If an event is already in the time block you need to add a new one click next to the current event or anywhere on the calendar and then manually update the date and time.

Optional: If you want to add guests to your event, on the left click Search for people and start typing the names of your guests.

  1. Add a title to the event, and any event details.
  2. After Add Notification, click on the calendar name dropdown menu. Next to the calendar name, click the down arrow. A list of all the calendars you can create events for appears. Select your preferred calendar.
  3. Click Save. The event appears with both the calendar name and the name of the person who created the event.

Tip: To create a longer event, drag your mouse down the page while you're selecting the time.

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. Click an event and then Options (three dots). Choose a calendar to copy the event to.
  3. Click Save.

Book Purchase Requests

All Miami University students, faculty, and staff are welcome to recommend book titles relevant to their research and professional interests for purchase for the University Libraries' general collections.  Requests from library staff can be placed with the Head of Advise & Instruct, or with a subject selector relevant to the book of interest. So long as the item would be of lasting value -- not e.g. a one-use workbook or an annually updated test preparation package -- we will, when funds are available, purchase requested items costing up to $300.  Electronic versions of books are preferenced when available. Purchases become part of and are subject to circulation policies of the University Libraries; requestors can be notified of an item's availability and (for print items) have the item held for them to check out.
