Notes:  In Fall 2018 Safari e-books transitioned to the O'Reilly platform.

Given the change in the concurrent user business model, there is a slightly different set of content on the new O’Reilly Safari platform than on classic Safari. As a whole, there is more content on the new platform, including books and videos.

Authentication: requires Miami University unique ID and password (not authenticated through EZProxy but through Shibboleth).

User limits: The new O’Reilly Safari platform offers unlimited concurrent users.

Mobile app: Safari content can be accessed on mobile devices by downloading the iOS or Android app.

Package Restrictions

  1. Safari e-books are negotiated and leased by OhioLINK on behalf of the entire consortium, so we have no control over any aspects of the package.
  2. Safari e-books are not purchased but are leased--they can leave the Safari platform at any time, with almost no warning as package and publisher agreements change. I receive updated bibliographic records for titles removed from Safari on a quarterly basis. Best practice for these e-books is to check links before the start of each semester if being used for a course.
