Copying E-Books

Publishers' restrictions prevent  e-books from being copied in full. You will only be able to copy or print a portion of the book per session, and only a limited number of pages can be printed at a time. Restrictions vary by publisher; specific information about restrictions are displayed on the home page of each e-book.

Downloading E-Books (complete e-book)

Most E-Book Central e-books can be downloaded in their entirety for a limited download period by clicking "Full Download". Full e-book downloads cannot be printed in their entirety.

Printing/Downloading Chapters or Page Ranges

For many e-books, individual chapters or page ranges can also be downloaded in PDF format. Printing or downloading a chapter or page range do the same thing - both options create a PDF that does not expire. The PDF can then be printed anytime or read offline. If you're browsing without having signed in, you will be prompted to sign in before you can print or download.

To select by page range, click “Print to PDF”:

  • If printing/downloading-to-PDF more than the current page, determine page numbers by viewing the page number displayed by the reader at the top right User-added image (in this example, 5 is the current page)
  • If the page numbers seem off, see below.
  • It's okay to use page numbers like iii, iv, xi, etc. as applicable.

To select by chapter, click “Chapter Download”:

  • If the chapter is longer than the number of pages you have left to print/download, an error will be displayed with the number of pages left. You’ll need to instead print-to-PDF a page range within your limit.
  • If the book has sections or parts, and the chapters are nested under those, the system may default to printing the entire section or part. In this case, the number of pages will likely exceed your limit, so you’ll need to enter the page range instead.

  • Downloadable audiobooks and music and video can be downloaded using the free Overdrive Media Console available on the Ohio Digital Library website.
  • To access e-books, you will need a Lane Library card--see the link below for instructions on obtaining a library card.
  • Login with your Lane card and PIN for access to e-book titles.

  • You can borrow up to 10 titles. The lending period may vary from title to title.

  • You can place up to 12 titles on hold at one time.
  • You’ll receive an e-mail notification when a title becomes available.
  • Once the notice is sent, you’ll have 3 days to borrow the title (or you can turn on automatic borrowing in your account to make sure you never miss a hold).
  • If you don’t retrieve it in time, the title will be made available to the next user on the list.
