This display celebrates items recognized during the 2022 Midwinter meeting of the American Library Association. Many of this year's recipients represent the experience of diverse populations, including Watercress (Caldecott Award) and The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu (Carnegie Medal), and Afterparties (Notable Books) written by and about people of Asian descent; A Little Devil in America: Notes in Praise of Black Performance (Carnegie Prize - Non-Fiction; Notable Books); The Last Cuentista (Newbery Award), featuring a Hispanic creator and main character); Poet Warrior (Notable Books), by US Poet Laureate and Muskogee Joy Harjo, and Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty, which delves into the development and marketing of Oxycontin, which has particularly impacted rural and low income communities in Appalachia.
