Appalshop is a non-profit multi-disciplinary arts and education center in the heart of Appalachia producing original films, video, theater, music and spoken-word recordings, radio, photography, multimedia, and books.

A government agency whose four goals are (1.) Increase job opportunities and per capita income in Appalachia to reach parity with the nation. (2.) Strengthen the capacity of the people of Appalachia to compete in the global economy. (3.) Develop and improve Appalachia's infrastructure to make the Region economically competitive. and (4.) Build the Appalachian Development Highway System to reduce Appalachia's isolation.

Highlander serves as a catalyst for grassroots organizing and movement building in Appalachia and the South. We work with people fighting for justice, equality and sustainability, supporting their efforts to take collective action to shape their own destiny....

This site has a wealth of information on the English language spoken in Appalachia. The author has designed this site to present not only how Appalachian people talk but also some of the history and the flavor of that talk.

Over 7,000 drawings of Appalachian communities done by Berea College (KY) students in the course "Man and the Humanities." Collected over the course of four decades, the maps are great primary sources that offer a glimpse of Appalachian life over the last half of the Twentieth Century.

The on-line edition of the Tennessee Encyclopedia of History and Culture is a joint project of the Tennessee Historical Society and the University of Tennessee Press. This fully searchable version of the print edition, originally published in 1998, contains over 1,500 entries. The online version has updates to existing entries, new entries, more than five hundred additional images, plus audio and video files.
