Data Services: What We Do

Data Services

Data Services offers assistance in the following areas:

Data Management Plans(DMP)
We can offer guidance and review your plans in preparation for applying for grant funding.  We also can help you access the university-sponsored DMPTool that will help guide you through making a DMP.  You can also find the DMP tool on the Databases A-Z section of the library's main website.

GIS
We can help in preparing and visualizing data with geographic or spatial qualities. Our GIS LibGuide has tutorials, examples, and links to university-licensed GIS software.

Data Visualization
Our staff can offer assistance in designing graphs, charts, and other visual displays of data in humanities, social, and hard sciences.  Interactive or static displays are useful for exploring the data you have collected and generated.

Finding Data
We offer consultation services for finding data sets and keep a list of data sources.

Preserving and Disseminating Data - The Miami Scholarly Commons
The Miami Scholarly Commons is a service of the Miami University libraries. Research and scholarly output included here has been selected and deposited by the individual university departments and centers on campus.  If you are interested in other repositories, please contact your subject librarian.

Purchasing Data
Ask your subject librarian about purchasing data sets.  Data sets (collected, created, or purchased by Miami faculty and students) are also stored in the Miami Scholarly Commons.

Citing Data
For details on how to cite data in APA, MLA, and other styles and resources to help with your citations, visit the library's Citation Resources page.  If you need further help, contact your subject librarian for assistance.
