Getting Started with GIS

GIS touches many subject areas.  This guide has been developed to provide a variety of information on how GIS works, what GIS is, and how to use it to enrich any subject.

Due to the technical nature of GIS, it is very important to understand where you can go to get help when you have questions.  From this subject guide, we hope to provide you with the contact information and resources available both here at Miami University and through ESRI.  ESRI is the industry standard software maker for GIS applications, and Miami is a full license holder of their suite of GIS applications.  Because of the breadth of ESRI's products, we will try to provide you a starting point.

Your feedback and comments are always welcome.  Please feel free to contact us at the information provided above, or in the profile box to the right.
