General and Subject Specific Databases

Communication and Mass Media Complete- Our most comprehensive search tool for finding articles from scholarly communication journals. Use the yellow "FindIt" button to see if an item is available full text. Use the "Choose Databases" link at the top of the page to cross-search other useful databases, like Academic Search Complete. Academic Search Complete is a general database for scholarly articles in many disciplines. You can limit to Scholarly/Peer Reviewed articles and get citations in different styles. For a full list of our databases, see the "Databases A-Z" page on the library website. Contact a librarian if you aren't sure which database to use.

Google Scholar - Find both books and articles, and see how many times an item has been cited by others.  The image below shows a Google Scholar item with the "Cited by" and full text link.

From off-campus, you will have to set up Google Scholar to allow you to access Miami subscription content. See below for steps:

  • Click "Settings" at the top of the opening page.
  • Select "Library Links."
  • Type in Miami University in the search box.
  • Click the box for "Miami University Libraries - Find It @MiamiOH"
  • Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom.

Other Sources for Articles

JSTOR - Scholarly journal articles across many disciplines. Articles from the last 3-5 years are not available.

Articles & More - A tool for cross-searching many of the subscription databases. It tends to return a lot of results, so narrowing a topic by keyword or source type is essential. This short tutorial will show you to best make use of Articles & More
