Video Editing Tools at Miami
Adobe Premiere Pro is available at Miami. Students (but not faculty or staff) can "check out" licenses to Adobe Creative Cloud, and can then download Adobe Products to use on a PC or Mac. These licenses can be borrowed for up to two weeks, and will then need to be checked out again. There are 100 licenses available to borrow at Miami.
Final Cut Pro is available at Miami. Students (but not faculty or staff) can "check out" licenses to Final Cut Pro, and can then download it use on Mac (there is no PC version of Final Cut Pro). These licenses can be borrowed for up to two weeks, and will then need to be checked out again. There are 100 licenses available to borrow at Miami.
Commercial Video Editing Tools
WeVideo is a cloud-based video editor, which is designed to be powerful and yet easy to use, since it is designed with the needs of schools and students in mind. It is available in paid and free versions. Its free version will export only 480p videos, and will export only 5 minutes of finished video per month.
Descript began as an audio transcription tool, and it is especially good at generating transcripts and captions for video and audio content, and for use in podcasting and other voice-heavy applications.
DaVinci Resolve is a powerful tool for video editing and advanced color correction. Its free version has a steeper learning curve than some, and requires a computer with sufficient memory and a good graphics processor.
HitFilm Express is a free version of HitFilm. HitFilm express is a relatively easy to use video editor.
For Mac users, iMovie, free a video editing tool from Apple offers a good combination of power and ease-of-use.
