How to Participate in Interlibrary Loan (ILL):
- Available for current Miami University students, faculty, and staff.
- Materials obtained through interlibrary loan are for the exclusive use of the requester.
- All ILL borrowers must be registered ILLiad users in good standing, with no overdue books or fines.
Contact Library Staff with Questions:
- Visit the front desk of the library.
- Call the ILL supervisor at (513) 785-3001.
Materials Available via ILL:
- Journal articles and most books circulate via ILL.
- Special collection items like DVDs, CDs, and reference books are more difficult to obtain and requests may take longer to be filled.
Borrowing Restrictions for ILL Items:
-
ILL does not request materials owned by the University Libraries. Before placing a request, ensure the material is not available in the Miami University Libraries catalog.
-
PDFs of journal articles are yours to keep.
-
Books and non-print materials must be returned. Loan periods are determined by the lending institution.
-
Renewals are at the lending institution’s discretion and are rarely granted once an item is overdue. Place renewals via your ILL account or contact library staff before the due date. Renewal restrictions set by the lending library will be honored.
-
Overdue or lost items may incur replacement charges, and accounts may be blocked until the bill is paid.
-
Some materials may be restricted to in-library use only.
Textbooks via ILL:
- We strongly discourage requesting class textbooks through ILL. Such requests are often unfilled or delayed, and textbooks are rarely available for the entire semester.
Timeline:
- Most ILL requests are filled and available for pickup within 10 days, but this is not guaranteed.
