3 Ways to Find Subject Specific Databases

Our Libraries have over 500 databases. This short video will show you three different ways of figuring out the best ones for you.

Searching Multiple EBSCOhost databases at one time

Most of the databases recommended to find scholarly resources for Family Science and Social Work are from EBSCOhost. You can choose to search multiple EBSCOhost databases at the same time. Here is a quick video on how to do this.

Searching PubMed

PubMed is a free database from the National Library of Medicine which is part of the National Institutes of Health. It is great for finding research on health (including statistics) and medicine. If you have never used PubMed, check out this video.

Using Controlled Vocabulary

Controlled vocabulary are specialized terms specific to each database. They can be used to create very specific searches. If your keyword searches are not coming up with exactly what you are looking for you can try to add in controlled vocabulary searches. Controlled vocabularies differ between databases so they cannot be search together. This video demonstrates PsycINFO, SocINDEX, and ERIC using their controlled vocabulary systems.
