Staying Current with Research: Creating Search Alerts

Keeping up with new research in your area is easy with journal alerts, TOC alerts, and conference alerts.

Creating Search Alerts in Library Databases

EBSCOHost (PsychInfo, SocIndex, etc.)
  • First, If you haven't already you will need to set up an account.
    • To create one go into any EBSCO database like the ones mentioned above. 
    • Once you are in click the Sign In or Folder link on the top right toolbar. 
  • Enter in a username and password (this account is not associated with your MiamiOH credentials and doesn’t have to be the same username/password
  • Second, complete a search on your topic.
    • Run a search and view your search results.Click the Share link and select E-mail Alert from the resulting pop- up menu. The Create Alert window appears over the result list.

PubMed
  • Navigate to the "Sign in to MyNCBI" link at the top right of the PubMed homepage to sign in (easiest way is through your ORICD account)
  • Perform a search of interest  for which you would like to set up an alert.
  • Click the "Create Alert" link located below the search box.
  • Save the search and set the frequency and day for email results.

Search Alerts in Google Scholar

Search Alerts
  • Enter your search terms into the Google Scholar search box. On the results screen, you will see an option at the bottom of the left sidebar to "Create alert"
  • On the next screen, you will be asked to set your preferences for email address, search terms and number of results.
Alerts by Author
  • To get notified when new publications by an author (yourself or another) are added to Google Scholar, click on the Follow new articles link in the right sidebar of the author profile, and submit this form:
