Welcome to MakeHERspace!
MakeHERspace is an DEI-focused maker event, offered annually in the Makerspace at King. The 2023 event will be in partnership with Howe Writing Center and the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion. The theme of the 2023 MakeHERspace is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories”, following the theme of 2023 Women’s History Month. MakeHERspace celebrates women’s history and equality through educational content woven into making and crafting activities. Participants will have the opportunity to learn such topics as:
The history of legitimizing traditionally-female crafting as art forms.
Quilting as storytelling throughout history.
Expressing their own personal stories through art and craft.
Women using collaborative art as a means of sharing stories and supporting each other globally (e.g. The Red Dress Project)
Join us Friday, March 10th, noon - 4 p.m. You can drop in anytime to grab a snack, peruse resources on the history of women expressing stories through art and craft, and participate in a variety of maker projects.
