Welcome to MakeHERspace!

Welcome to MakeHERspace: Craftivism!

Join us during Women’s History Month for three weeks of making and activism! Kicking off on March 8th, International Women’s Day, this interactive virtual event includes a variety of self-paced activities that center around making and activism. Crafts have long been a tool for activism, from hand-made suffragist banners, to yarn bombing, to using poetry as a means of resistance, and much more! MakeHERspace 2021 gives you the opportunity to learn new crafting techniques to use for activism and self care. Complete activities on your own time, and join us for our keynote with Sarah Marsom, Heritage Resource Consultant, who will present a LIVE banner-making workshop focusing on self-care and activism. Share your creations on Instagram using #makeHERspace2021 and tag @mulibraries to be entered to win the GRAND PRIZE - Miami-themed gift pack from the Brick & Ivy store! If you prefer some privacy, email your creations to create@miamioh.edu and you will still be eligible for the grand prize.

How to participate

  1. Pick up a supplies kit (including a FREE MakeHERspace face mask!) from King Library or the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion. Note: kits available while supplies last. If you're unable to pick up a kit, you can still participate! All of the activities use inexpensive and easy-to-find supplies.
  2. Complete the asynchronous activities (listed below) at your own pace between March 8th - 31st.
  3. Attend the LIVE workshop with Sarah Marsom, "Crafting for Self Care" on March 19th at 1 p.m.
