AY 21-22 Strategic Plan and Values

Strategic Plan Overview

In AY22, the Libraries will continue working on the goals from AY21.  One action-oriented initiative is aligned with each goal.

Goal 1: Develop talent, resources, and experiences to facilitate an inclusive community.

• Professional Development: Create a sustainable, functioning resource guide relating to professional development with balanced information for Classified Staff, Unclassified Staff, and Librarians.

Goal 2: Transform the Libraries’ environment and user-centered experience to anticipate evolving modes of learning.

Virtual Spaces and Services: Promote existing virtual services and develop a long-term strategy to identify new services that would best suit our community of students, faculty, and staff.

Goal 3: Forge meaningful partnerships that foster affordability, ensure relevancy, and cultivate life-long connections.

Meaningful Partnerships: Create a toolkit to support Libraries’ staff in fostering and maintaining healthy partnerships.

This year, teams will take intentional steps to align the work they are completing with Miami Rise as well as support DEI initiatives.

Strategic Plan Initiatives Progress Dashboard

The strategic plan progress dashboard is maintained monthly.  It is a visual representation of how each workgroup is progressing.

Overall Progress represents the cumulative progress for every action on the strategic plan.

Goal Progress represents the progress for all aspects of that goal.

Initiative Progress represents the progress for all aspects of that initiative.  This year, this will match the goal progress, as there is one initiative per each goal.

Each initiative is broken into three objectives, or smaller tasks to help achieve the initiative. Objective Progress represents the progress for all tasks within an initiative objective.

Initiative Final Outcomes:

Professional Development Initiative / Goal 1: The professional development initiative workgroup developed a staff guide that brings together resources and information related to professional development for all staff classifications. The guide provides a central location for university-wide policies and library-specific procedures to help staff access professional development opportunities.

Virtual Spaces and Services Initiative / Goal 2: The virtual spaces and services initiative workgroup created two products. First, they developed a marketing campaign to promote four of the Libraries’ virtual services this August: MyGuide, “Ask a Librarian!” Live Chat, Software Checkout, and the Leisure Reading Collection. This workgroup also created a central data store and visualization dashboard that will equip each department with tools to make data-informed decisions.

Meaningful Partnership Initiative / Goal 3: The meaningful partnerships initiative workgroup created a Partnerships Toolkit to guide Libraries staff in partnership work. The toolkit includes best practices for maintaining successful partnerships, workflows for creating partnerships, evaluation tools, and a list of current Libraries partnerships.

All resources will also be available in the Staff Manual.

THANK YOU!

This year's iteration of Catalyst would not have been possible without the hard work of all involved.  Thank you to all of the sponsors, facilitators, and workgroup members.  Additionally, thank you to the staff who offered feedback along the way.

Resources:

Initiative Updates:

Professional Development Initiative / Goal 1: Create a sustainable, functioning resource guide relating to professional development with balanced information for Classified Staff, Unclassified Staff, and Librarians.

  • On track and ready to start loading some content onto the LibGuide
  • Submitted a sustainability plan to their sponsors for approval from senior leadership
  • Goal is to have the Professional Development LibGuide available for review by late May
  • This group is maintaining a parking lot of ideas for future professional development initiatives

Virtual Spaces and Services Initiative / Goal 2: Promote existing virtual services and develop a long-term strategy to identify new services that would best suit our community of students, faculty, and staff.

  • Selected MyGuide as the first service to market
  • Created two different marketing flyers to highlight different aspects of MyGuide
  • Once the flyers are approved, they will be posted across campus and MyGuide usage will be assessed
  • Progress is being made on dashboard creation - the goal is to add data sources for each department to the dashboard by June
  • Departments have identified relevant data sources
  • Currently exploring apps and testing methodology to best process the data

Meaningful Partnerships Initiative / Goal 3: Create a toolkit to support Libraries' staff in fostering and maintaining healthy partnerships.

  • Developed a toolkit outline that includes: partnership best practices; partnership evaluation tools; workflows for creating partnerships; documenting existing partnerships
  • Top victory is developing the toolkit wireframe
  • Once completed, the toolkit will be linked to the staff area of the Libraries’ website and usage will be assessed

Top Takeaways:

  • There is excitement about the workgroup updates - all three groups are in the development phase of their action plans and outcomes are beginning to be realized.
  • Implementation of the strategic plan is a collective effort.  I would like to thank all individuals who are involved this year:
    • Professional Development - Laura Birkenhauer, Cara Calabrese, Alea Henley, Lissa Martin, Lindsay Miller, Gabe Neff, Shawn Vanness, and Barry Zaslow
    • Virtual Spaces and Services - Kristen Adams, Stan Brown, Mark Dahlquist, Ken Irwin, Megan Jaskowiak, Meng Qu, Andy Revelle, Elias Tzoc, Alia Levar Wegner, Rob Withers, and Jerry Yarnetsky
    • Meaningful Partnerships - Lori Chapin, Katie Gibson, Jacky Johnson, Kevin Messner, Bill Modrow, Abi Morgan, Carla Myers, Senta Sellers, and John Williams
  • Planning for next year is underway.  There is a lot of energy around the possibilities this can hold!
  • The work we are doing extends beyond the Libraries.  We are supporting MiamiRISE, the university’s strategic plan, and recommendations from the President’s DEI Taskforce. Additionally, the initiatives provide an opportunity to partner with departments and organizations around campus.
