Personnel Committee

Charge: The Personnel Committee is a standing committee that serves as the Libraries promotion and continuing contract committee.  The committee conducts objective and thorough review of probationary librarian annual activity reports and applications of candidates for promotion and/or continuing contract within the Libraries defined criteria. Members of the Personnel Committee must regard their work to be of the utmost confidentiality.

Functional Committees

Collection Development and Management Committee

Chair:  Kevin Messner

Members: Katie Gibson, Kristen Adams, Mark Dahlquist, Abi Morgan, Jenny Presnell, Rob Withers (PPR), Cara Calabrese (PPR), Rich Wisneski (PPR).

 

Charge: The Collection Development Committee (1) provides library management with collection development data and recommendations, (2) assists selectors in the functional activities relating to collection development and management, (3) directs long-range collection development and management activities, and (4) develops and coordinates an awareness of issues related to scholarly communication. The Cluster provides analysis regarding collection development and management, assists and recommends strategies to increase the effectiveness of materials selection, and maintains a program for ongoing assessment and evaluation of the collections to measure the effectiveness of library resources in meeting the changing demands of the research and academic programs of the University.

 

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee

Chairs: Krista McDonald (6/2024) and Rob O'Brien Withers (6/2025)

Charge: The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee is a standing committee that provides DEI recommendations for actions, ensures alignment with campus priorities, fosters DEI partnerships within and outside of the Miami community, and develops task forces with focused DEI initiatives and projects.

 

Scholarly Communication Committee

Chair: Carla Myers

 

Charge: The Scholarly Communication Committee (SCC) works to increase student, faculty, staff, administration, and librarian awareness, understanding, and engagement with scholarly communication issues across the Miami University campus. Efforts and activities may include:

1) Studying and reporting on issues of scholarly communication.  2) Developing programs, events, resources, services, advocacy, and other activities that support and promote existing scholarly communications programs and initiatives and shapes the Libraries' response to and participation in new models of scholarly communication. 3) Identifies and evaluates tools, platforms, and resources that can help facilitate the growth of scholarly communications initiatives on campus.

 

 

Teaching and Learning Committee

Charge: The Teaching and Learning Committee (TLC) is a group of librarians and library staff interested and skilled in instruction or instructional technology. Participants will include all members of the Learning and Engagement team and members of other departments in the system. Members of the Committee provide leadership across the Libraries and within their own library group in articulating and meeting the instruction needs of the university community. Committee members are expected to create a climate of commitment and excitement for library instruction and information literacy. The TLC considers, discusses, and makes recommendations on instructional issues that advance the academic mission of the Libraries and university. The TLC also recommends policy and procedures related to broad academic initiatives to improve instruction and student learning. Working groups or project groups will be formed with membership both inside and outside of the committee.

Emergency Response Team 

Chair: Mike Smith

Charge/Purpose:  The Response Team is responsible for the regular evaluation, review and update of the Immediate Action Guide (IAG), the Response Team Handbook (for continuous operations), and follow-up on related emergencies.

 

LAURE Committee (Library Award for Undergraduate Research Excellence)

Chair: Jody Perkins 

Members: Stefanie Hilles, Mark Dahlquist

 

Charge/Purpose: The Miami University Libraries provide many resources to support undergraduate research. The Miami University Libraries Award for Undergraduate Research Excellence is an annual award dedicated to celebrating the research conducted by undergraduates using library resources, and to helping student researchers at Miami become aware of the library services and resources that can enhance their research projects. All undergraduate students enrolled at Miami University are eligible. The purpose of the committee is to coordinate and support activities that make the award possible including outreach, submissions, judging, announcement and distribution of prizes.
